Alpine Water Storage Innovations

Switzerland is experimenting with underground reservoirs to capture glacier meltwater and with year-round snowmaking systems to build up snowpack. These projects aim to safeguard drinking water, support local ecosystems and maintain hydropower production during dry spells.

By releasing project documents under the BGÖ/FOIA, the public can assess whether proposed capacities and environmental safeguards meet long-term water-security needs.
