Fresh BAFU river-temperature readings are screened against the 25 °C requirement in GSchV Annex 2 No. 12(4).
A reading above 25 °C triggers review; it does not prove a breach. The rule concerns human-caused warming after substantial mixing. The live feed does not identify a heat input, reference state, mixing, permit or exception. Residual-flow and water-quality compliance need site-specific or non-live evidence.

This is area, not volume. Different delineation methods make the apparent 2010–2016 increase a method break, not ice growth. Area is measured here; cited volume estimates come from separate studies.

Illustration, not legal determination. The map applies the arithmetic in Art. 31(1) GSchG to BAFU's published Q347 values. A canton must still determine the adequate residual flow for the site. Local measurement and Arts. 31(2), 32 and 33 may change it.

Colour shows direction: water taken out or returned. Shape identifies the register. Art. 31 GSchG governs abstraction; GSchV Annex 2 No. 12(4) governs heat input.
A filled mark carries a quantity; an open ring locates an object only. Hydropower design discharge is derived from capacity and head, not measured. The residual-flow register contains no abstraction volume; open federal data give no nuclear cooling volume. Treatment plants show discharge relative to the receiving water at Q347. At 39 plants, discharge exceeds the stream’s low flow.
Colour separates the legal basis. Alluvial zones and amphibian sites use water blue; their ordinances state water-related protection aims. Bogs, fens and mire landscapes use statutory ink because Art. 78(5) BV protects them. How this is drawn.
The inventories do not age together. The amphibian inventory was revised in May 2026. The alluvial-zone and mire-landscape inventories still state November 2017. See every date.
Three overlays arrive as images. This map cannot query or verify the groundwater bodies, protection zones or catchments. Headwaters are the exception: they are drawn from this map’s network.
A headwater is not a spring. It is the top of the drawn river network, clipped at 5 km² of upstream area. At closer zoom, swissNAMES3D adds 86 named springs and 157 named waterfalls—not a complete national inventory.
Only zones in force are drawn. geodienste.ch serves planned and future zones too; a planned zone is not yet a legal constraint. S1 is the fenced ground at the wellhead, S2 the close zone, S3 the outer one — Art. 20 GSchG, GSchV Annex 4 No. 1. They are measured in hectares, so at country view they are smaller than a pixel: zoom past a canton before expecting to see any.
